American Traveler seeks a Surgical Technologist with at least two years of recent large OR experience and BLS certification for a hospital operating room position.

Details

• Position is based in a hospital operating room (OR)
• Four 10-hour day shifts per week, starting at 6:30 AM
• Weeknight and weekend call is required as needed
• Floating between departments and local locations within 20 miles is required
• Patient care includes a variety of surgical cases; ortho, ENT, and vascular experience is a plus
• Epic EMR experience is preferred but not required, with on-site training available
• No local candidates accepted; candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility

Requirements

• Minimum of two years current experience working in a large OR setting
• High school diploma or GED required
• Completion of a Surgical Technician training program or graduation from an accredited school, or Certified Surgical Technician (CST) credential from NBSTSA or NCCT plus ten years of experience
• BLS certification required from American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross
• CST (NBSTSA) or Tech in Surgery (NCCT) certification preferred
• License required if applicable

Additional Information

• Main responsibilities include preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures under the supervision of a surgeon
• Maintains sterile field and performs instrument and sponge counts during procedures
• Prepares patient skin, positions and re-positions patient, and assists with monitoring during surgery
• Ensures correct handling of specimens and maintains knowledge of equipment and aseptic techniques
• May be required to cover both pre-operative and intraoperative supportive care
• Must follow federal, state, and departmental safety procedures
• Returning employees must wait at least one year before being considered as a traveler again
• Orientation includes on-site training for required EMR and other facility-specific protocols
