American Traveler is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 3 years of OR experience for a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital position requiring broad multi-specialty surgical skills.

Details

• Works in a General OR at a 562-bed acute care hospital that is both a Level I Trauma Center and a Magnet-designated facility
• High-volume environment averaging 50–60 cases per day across multiple surgical specialties
• Day shift schedule, 5x8 hours (6:45 AM – 3:15 PM)
• Weekend obligation required once per month, totaling 16 hours
• On-call required as needed per department needs
• Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs is required
• Charting via Cerner EMR
• Scrubs are provided for this role
• Free parking available with a permit obtained during orientation

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of surgical technologist experience required
• General OR experience in a teaching hospital setting required
• Level I Trauma experience required
• BLS certification required; CST preferred
• Proficiency across a broad range of surgical specialties including ENT, general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastic surgery, trauma, urology, oral surgery, and endoscopy
• ENT skills required: direct laryngoscopy, radical neck dissection, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, tracheostomy
• Endoscopic skills required: colonoscopy, EGD, PEG tube placement/exchange
• General surgery skills required: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, open/lap colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic-assisted procedures, mastectomy, partial/total thyroidectomy
• Gynecology skills required: abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy, anterior/posterior repair, bilateral tubal ligation, D&C, laparoscopic-assisted gynecological procedures
• Neurosurgery skills required: craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion
• Oral surgery skills required: repair of fractured jaws, mandibular and zygomatic
• Orthopedic skills required: arthroscopy, arthrotomy, carpal tunnel release, closed/open reduction of fractures, laminectomy/discectomy
• Plastic surgery skills required: free flap microvascular procedures
• Trauma skills required: amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, MVA with multiple injuries
• Urology skills required: cystoscopy, laparoscopic-assisted cases, nephrectomy, ureteroscopy
• Equipment experience required: multiple types of drills, electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords
• Professional knowledge required: aseptic technique, isolation precautions, radiation safety, sharps safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (time out) procedure
• Emergency management knowledge required: fire safety
• Must be available to complete fingerprinting requirements in Illinois at least 3 business days prior to compliance deadline
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be considered; local candidates are not accepted
• License required if applicable

Additional Information

• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
