American Traveler is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with strong OR experience, including proficiency with Da Vinci robotic systems, for a 13-week hospital OR position in Tacoma, WA.

Details

• Large hospital OR department with 20 rooms, including 4 CVOR rooms, 1 hybrid Endo/Vascular room, 12 main general OR rooms, and 3 outpatient rooms
• CVOR cases include CABG (~10/week), TAVR (~3/week), VATs, open thoracotomies, valve repairs, AV fistulas, fem-pop bypasses, and open/endoscopic AAA repairs
• General OR cases include neuro (EVD placement, shunts), ortho (total joints, ORIF), trauma (GSW, MVA), emergency general (appendectomies, torsions), GYN, GI, and GU
• Does not include transplants, burns, or adult ophthalmology
• CVOR staff are expected to float to general surgery
• CSTs are assigned to scrub roles
• Robotic cases (GYN, general, urology) utilize the Da Vinci DV5 system and are scheduled as 12-hour shifts
• CVOR rooms are staffed with 2 RNs and 2 Techs; TAVR cases have 1 RN
• EMR: Epic
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Belmont rapid infuser, and intraoperative blood salvage systems
• Shifts range from 8, 10, or 12 hours; a block or set schedule cannot be guaranteed
• Day shift hours: 0645–1515, 0645–1715, or 0645–1915; evening shift hours: 1045–2315, 1245–2315, or 1445–2315; night shift: 1845–0715 or 2245–0715
• Trauma call is required for main OR travelers not assigned to CVOR: CSTs have approximately 5 call shifts per 6-week schedule, either 0700–1900 or 1900–0700, with a 30-minute response time
• CVOR travelers are assigned to the Heart Call Team: 1 shift per week (Mon–Thu, 1700–0700) and 1 weekend per 6-week schedule (Fri 1500–Mon 0700)
• Night shift positions are blocked when possible and have no on-call requirement
• Up to 5 days of RTO may be approved; if scheduled hours cannot be met, willingness to extend the assignment end date is required

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of strong OR experience required
• Proficiency with the Da Vinci robotic system is required; lack of robotic experience is a disqualifying factor
• BLS certification required
• CST credential required; license required if applicable
• Top preferred specialties include general surgery robotics, general surgery, and orthopedics, followed by trauma and neuro
• Night shift candidates must be comfortable with blood administration (Belmont/intraoperative blood salvage), assisting with arterial lines, and wound vacs
• At least 1 supervisor-level reference required for consideration; a 2nd supervisor-level reference is required prior to start
• Traveler Telemetry Competency exam must be completed and passed prior to start (graded by SimpliFi Compliance)

Additional Information

• First-time travelers will be considered with demonstrated strong OR experience
• Orientation consists of 1–2 days of general hospital orientation followed by one full shift on the unit; additional position-specific orientation days may be assigned based on assessment
• 24/7 support available including respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage; 5 cardiac surgeons on staff
• CVICU is located one floor above the CVOR; pre-op unit is adjacent to the OR
