American Traveler is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) with orthopedic/neuro experience and prior travel assignments for an acute care OR position in West Virginia.

Details

• Acute care hospital OR setting with 14 main suites averaging 28 cases per day, including add-on cases
• Common case types include neuro spine, total joints, open fractures, general surgery, and ENT; no open heart cases
• 1:1 patient ratio in the OR
• Primary schedule is 8-hour day shifts, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
• Weeknight and weekend call rotations required; weeknight call shifts run 7p–11p or 7p–7a, and weekend call shifts can span 7a–7p, 7p–7a, 7p–11p, or 7a–7a
• Call commitment includes approximately 1 x 12-hour weeknight shift per week and 1 x 24-hour weekend shift per month (which may be split into two 12-hour shifts)
• Holiday call coverage required as needed
• Call response time is 20 minutes; candidates living more than 20 minutes away may be required to remain on-site while on call
• Floating to outpatient surgery required as needed
• Charge Nurse coverage available 7:00 AM–7:00 PM daily
• OR Techs are on staff and are responsible for room turnover
• EMR: Epic

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Certified Surgical First Assistant, with 2–3 prior travel assignments preferred
• CSFA certification via NBSTSA required; ABSA certifications are not accepted
• CST certification via NBSTSA required
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required
• Graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assistant program required
• Orthopedic experience required; neuro experience preferred
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Driver's license address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility
• License required if applicable
• 2 references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (from a permanent facility if applicable within the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration

Additional Information

• Assist surgeons across a broad range of surgical cases including neuro spine, total joints, open fractures, general surgery, and ENT
• OR techs are responsible for room turnover in addition to scrubbing duties
• Orientation consists of 3 shifts
• Scrubs are provided for OR Techs
• RT is in-house 24/7 and manages ventilated patients brought to the OR and in the PACU
• Pharmacy is available 24/7 with Omnicell on-site
• First-time travelers will not be considered; 2–3 prior travel assignments required
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break before returning
• Travelers are not permitted to work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year; a 2-year break is required after reaching that threshold
• Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
