American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Float Pool position requiring 2 years of PCU experience, primarily supporting an ED Hold unit with floating across multiple inpatient departments.

Details

• 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week
• Float pool position primarily supporting the ED Hold unit, with potential floating to PCU, Med-Surg, ICU, CCU, Rehab, and other inpatient units
• ED Hold unit serves a mixed-diagnosis patient population including ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg level patients with isolation and non-ambulatory patients in a fast-paced environment
• PCU patient population includes respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and general medical/surgical cases
• Patient ratios: ICU 1:2, PCU/CCU 1:4, Med-Surg 1:5; if PCU floats to Med-Surg the ratio is 1:5
• EMR: Epic (required)
• IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Weekends required based on unit needs
• No holiday requests, self-scheduling, or on-call responsibilities
• Schedule is provided 3 weeks at a time, received approximately 10 days before the schedule period begins
• Must call the staffing office 30–45 minutes before each shift to receive the unit assignment

Requirements

• Active WA or Compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation required
• PCU skills required: chest tubes, lumbar drains, traches, and IV medication titration (Amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, dopamine, dobutamine, non-DKA insulin, heparin, and occasionally Cardene)
• Telemetry competency required (assessed during orientation)
• Strong communication and patient teaching/education skills required
• At least one professional reference from a supervisor or above (charge nurse, manager, director, etc.) required for consideration; a second reference is required prior to start

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 2 days of hospital onboarding (system access, modules) and 1 day on the assigned unit
• Support staff include patient care techs, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalists (24/7), and intensivists (24/7)
• Floating may occur for partial shifts and will remain within the nurse's scope of practice
• RTO of up to 5 days may be approved; additional time off requests should be directed to the nurse manager; any approved RTO may require extending the assignment end date
