American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Charlotte, NC, requiring a minimum of 18 months of PCU experience and proficiency with complex cardiac and pulmonary patient populations.

• 36-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with an average census of 36 patients
• Patient population includes COPD/pulmonary diseases, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, renal failure, sepsis, ETOH/CIWA, IVDA, tracheostomies requiring mechanical ventilation, continuous BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, hypothermia regulation, and titratable IV drips
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4; CNA ratio of 1:9
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips; communication via Rover
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating required within Region 2 (Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and Central Division including CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) per regional needs

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 18 months of PCU experience required, with most recent experience within the past year
• Experience required with tracheostomy/ventilator management, temporary/transvenous pacemakers, cardiac drips, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, trach care, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
• Epic EMR experience required
• Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
• Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

• Unit support includes CNAs (ADLs, vitals, nutrition, blood sugar checks, mobility), a charge nurse, virtual nursing (assists with admissions/discharges, virtual patient observation, and RN witness sign-off for certain medications), 24/7 phlebotomy and IV/VAT teams, a unit-dedicated pharmacist, two case managers, a MedSurg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, a nurse educator, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, and intensivist coverage until midnight with virtual/on-call critical care MD overnight
• No remote telemetry monitoring — charge nurse, clinical supervisor, and staff are responsible for reading and posting telemetry every shift
• Facility is a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center, but is not a trauma-designated or teaching hospital
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
