American Traveler seeks a Surgical Assistant/Surgical Tech for a Level II Trauma Center OR, requiring CSA certification and 2+ years of experience with strong ortho and neuro case exposure.

Details

• Work in a hospital surgery department with 10 suites, typically running 7 rooms at a time
• Unit averages 12-20 cases per day
• Adult patient population includes ortho/neuro cases such as total joints, craniotomies, laminectomies (level 1-2), fusions, robotic (DaVinci XI), gallbladder, colectomy, general surgery, bariatric, and urology cases
• Pediatric cases include ENT and emergent cases such as appendectomies
• Uses DaVinci XI Robot, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Day shift schedule Mon-Fri, primarily 0630-1500, with additional shift options of 0630-1700 and 0630-1900
• No floating required
• On-call responsibilities include 4 weeknight call shifts per month (end of shift to 0630 the following morning) and 1 full weekend per month (end of shift Friday to Monday 0630), with a 30-minute response time
• On-call, weeknight, weekend, and holiday coverage divided among Surgical Assistants
• Covers OB call after 1700 on weekdays and weekends
• Holiday coverage is call-only and included in rotation
• On-call sleep room available on a first-come, first-served basis with key requested in advance

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in surgical assisting or surgical technology required
• Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
• Strong experience in ortho procedures including total joints and fem/tibial rodding required
• Strong experience in neuro procedures including laminectomies and burr holes required
• Must be comfortable performing both Surgical Assistant and Surgical Technologist duties interchangeably
• BLS certification required
• CSA certification required (License required if applicable)
• EPIC EMR experience required
• At least 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

• Provide surgical assistance and surgical technologist support across ortho, neuro, general, ENT, and other surgical specialties
• Facility is a Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with 91 beds
• Supported by an in-house team of RNs and Surgical Techs available 24/7 for trauma support
• Additional department support includes a charge nurse, educator, phlebotomy/RN, hospitalist coverage 24/7, and unit secretary
• Bedside tele monitoring provided by anesthesia
• Orientation consists of one week with a preceptor, including time with the unit educator
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position
• Scrubs are provided by the facility

• RTO requests must be approved through the manager
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
• Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible for travel assignments
